Diespeker terrazzo pops up in all sorts of places and projects – and these garden rooms from My Room in the Garden are no exception!
These practical ‘pods’ are the creation of Tomaso Boano and Jonas Prišmontas who run London-based architectural and creative firm Boano Prišmontas. They came up with the concept as a practical option for those working from home during lockdown.
Made from a modular flatpack design using sustainably source birch plywood panels, the pods are customisable – including the interior. Terrazzo is one of the materials suggested as a potential interior surface.
Step forward Diespeker! Tomaso and Jonas already knew of Diespeker through their architectural work and they have a high regard for us as a quality supplier of terrazzo. So when it comes to offering different terrazzo options, there’s only one place they send their clients.
My Room in the Garden clients come to us direct as a supplier. This gives them access to a huge range of Diespeker designs, from calming neutrals to dramatic colours and patterns for those wanting something just a little different! As with all clients, they are welcome to visit our South East London premises to view the options, or they can order samples online if preferred. Once the perfect design is chosen, the terrazzo tiles are then installed by the onsite contractor.
For the featured project, we supplied TE007 cement terrazzo tiles with the thinner profile of just 12mm, for installation as a feature wall. TE007 is one of our most popular designs, as it always works well with different colours and tones – and indeed it blends beautifully with the birch plywood in the pods.
The Diespeker team is really in love with these pods – as well as garden offices, they are perfect for anyone needing extra space for an art or craft workshop, music room, somewhere to escape to for a bit of peace and quiet (or in the case of our MD, a luxury bike store?)
The carcasses are made just across the Thames from Diespeker, about 30 mins away in Hoxton, East London. Eminently practical, they can usually be built in a single day.
