We recently received a slightly unusual request from one of our clients. Architectural and design practice Studio Carver asked if they could visit Diespeker as part of their festive celebrations. They were keen to book a factory tour, and wondered if they might even have a go at making some terrazzo.

Our MD John, aka ‘Santa Krause’ (once he’d ascertained the Studio Carver team had been good all year), readily agreed. Senior Sales Manager Sydney Robertson stepped up to organise and run the afternoon.

Sydney kicked things off by showing the five-strong Carver team examples of previously made bespoke terrazzo to spark some inspiration. He then let them loose to choose from the many materials we keep in stock, including chunks of marble, semi-precious stones and coloured glass, so they could plan their own mixes. It didn’t take long before they got the hang of it, putting together some genuinely interesting designs.

Andy, Mitch and Bailey from our bespoke team were on hand to offer advice and help guide everyone through the next stages of terrazzo production. These included mixing the resin, adding dye for those who wanted it, and finally pouring the resin over the design to create a solid piece of terrazzo. More than once during the process, we heard someone say: “It’s just like Bake Off!”
