Team Diespeker – on the run again!
The 41st Malta Marathon took place on February 22nd – and for the fifth year in a row, a team from Diespeker and our business associates took part, raising funds for teenage mental health charity stem4.
It was great weather for the marathon, perfect for those running or walking the course which starts in the medieval town of Mdina and winds down to the coast passing through countryside, urban areas, past the yacht studded creeks of Malta’s natural Grand Harbour before finishing in Sliema, a popular town promenade.
Diespeker MD John was pleased with another sub-4 hour time, finishing in 3:50:41 and being placed third in his age group. Diespeker Senior Sales Manager Sydney Robertson ran the half marathon and achieved a very creditable 1.40.55 chip time.
The other participants supporting stem4 this year took part in the Malta walkathon (21K): David Fernando, Nina Assam, Amanda Macvean, Patrick Macvean, Jessie Fernando.
The event raised just under £3,200 for stem4, with costs for the participants sponsored by Diespeker. Â
stem4
The charity was set up in 2011 after the death of a local teenager who lost her battle with an eating disorder. stem4 promotes positive mental health in teenagers and those who support them including their families and carers, education professionals, as well as school nurses and GPs through the provision of mental health education, resilience strategies and early intervention.
Much of this is delivered digitally through stem4’s innovative education programme, pioneering mental health apps, clinically-informed website, and mental health conferences. Together, these contribute to helping young people and those around them thrive.
The charity’s award-winning apps are:
Calm Harm: Helping teenagers manage or resist the urge to self-harm.
Clear Fear: Supporting children and young people in managing anxiety symptoms.
Move Mood: Helping teenagers manage low mood and depression.
Combined Minds: Empowering families and friends to provide mental health support.
Worth Warrior: Supporting young people with low self-worth, poor body image, and eating disorders.
In April John is once again running the London Marathon for stem4. Good luck John!
