Early start for MD at the Maldives Long Run
Congratulations to Diespeker MD John Krause on his latest marathon success. John ran the Maldives Long Run, his 230th marathon.
The Long Run started in 2013 and is now the Maldives’ longest-running endurance race. The location is one of the world’s loveliest island settings: the race takes place on the scenic streets of Hulhumalé and includes a picturesque 5km loop in Hulhumalé Central Park.
However, despite its association with relaxation and memorable holidays, this side of the Maldives is no picnic! The Long Run is actually a true test of endurance and determination especially as the Marathon run starts at 2:00am, due to the daytime temperatures.
John says the event presented quite a challenge, from getting to the start line with two islands to jump beforehand, to running in the dark in 28 degrees. Only 28 runners completed the course and John was pleased to finish in 5th place with a time of 04:18:05. Well done from all the team!
Some icing on the cake for our MD, as on his return, he learned that he has qualified for the London Marathon 2026. John is running in the ‘Good For Age’ category which required him to achieve times of under 3 hours 52 mins, which he did in Estonia and Reykjavik this year.
John will be raising funds for Diespeker’s chosen charity, stem4 – and we will be sending out the donation link once his London Marathon page is live. As always, we will be asking friends of Diespeker to donate to this small but mighty charity that supports teenage mental health.
