About This Project

Diespeker & Co is delighted with the results of a marble installation for clothing retailer, END. Clothing, which has launched its second store, this one in Glasgow.

The new END. store is located in Ingram Street in Glasgow’s ‘Style Mile’ and boasts a stunning interior look created using Arabescato. This is a grey marble with black veining often in a circular pattern – but for END. the marble was used to produce a diagonal, linear look.

The project called for book matched marble; this refers to the method of cutting the marble, which is rather like cutting a loaf of bread. The first slab is polished on the front, the next slab on the back and so on, so the pattern continues through creating a stunning, mirror image effect rather like opening up a book.

In late November 2016, Diespeker took delivery of 30 slabs sized at 3000 by 1800 by 20mm, allowing for two panels per slab. The slabs were checked before being prepared for cutting. They were then delivered to the site in Ingram Street.

The sub frame was a steel structure clad in 25mm ply and the marble was bonded and mechanically fixed. One onsite challenge was the specification of an eight-metre elevation; the project was complicated by the need for top panels to make the elevation compliant.

The Diespeker team rose to the challenge and the installation was completed on time. The timescale from the initial order was just four weeks, an extremely fast turnaround considering the project specification.

The end result is a stunning installation that creates an upmarket shopping experience for customers of END.

“Thanks for all your help to pull this one out the bag. Please also pass my thanks on to your site team. Everyone had to be flexible to make this happen and they were superb. It made all the difference.” Mark Every, MD, AD Bakers
