Stunning green marble helps to bring a natural look to a bespoke kitchen from Woodworks Brighton designed by The Vawdrey House.
The ‘Lundazi’ kitchen was created for a family of four, with a brief to achieve the look and feel of a smart restaurant like the Ivy.
A central element in the design is a resplendent green marble worktop. Using Diespeker’s marble Verde Guatemala, this is a statement in opulence and functionality set within design that blends aesthetics with contemporary using bespoke craftsmanship.
The main marble worktop features cut outs for sink and drainer, with pencil edging providing a soft roundedness to the top and bottom edge. The same marble was also used for the splashback, shelving and as a semi oval top for the drinks cabinet.
The marble was chosen both to add colour to the overall design, which features floor-to-ceiling vintage black-stained oak doors and patinated solid brass doors, embellished with solid brass handles encase the kitchen, and to reflect the natural ambiance. It also picks up the garden colours seen through the window and, once the kitchen was complete, turned out to beautifully complement the greenery of a collection of beautiful plants displayed overhead on a dedicated gantry.
Other features of note in the kitchen include a substantial concrete island providing a sleek surface that effortlessly balances utility and style, and a large, green banquette seat providing an oasis of comfort as well as additional natural tones.
Challenges for Diespeker’s installation team included the floating shelf, which formed part of the sliding metal doors. During the first install it became apparent that the marble needed to be thicker and the location holes required thick enough, and the location holes needed repositioning. The team redressed the issues, and the second install went smoothly.
Francois from Woodworks Brighton said: “The team were fantastic!” He added: “We love using natural stone, so we try and guide our clients in this direction.”
