One of Diespeker’s most popular terrazzo designs, TE007, was used to perfect effect by Woodworks Brighton on a kitchen project combining wall mounted cabinets and a central kitchen island.
Clients Kim and Paolo were at first against the idea of kitchen island, even though they had plenty of space for it. Woodworks Brighton’s initial designs therefore didn’t include the option. However this left a large empty space in the middle of the room, which was really calling out to be used. With a dining table already incorporated into the design, the suggestion of a freestanding island was mooted again.
The island was created using solid 3-layer rustic oak with a lower shelf providing additional storage. TE007 resin terrazzo was chosen as the ideal design for the countertop; the neutral but interesting mix includes terracotta and brown chippings that work well with the rustic oak.
The wall mounted worktops and splashbacks were paired with black Richlite cabinets. Again TE007 includes black chippings that pair really well with the cabinets, as well as the black taps and cut out handles. Richlite is a durable, sustainable and versatile material made from paper, giving this part of the kitchen a sense of drama contrasting with the softer oak tones, which the terrazzo creating a seamless pairing of the two materials.
For the Diespeker factory team, the design included a cut out for a double brass sink along with drainage grooves. All the countertops had an elegant standard pencil (check) edge, which provides a smooth transition from the top surface of the countertop.
