In September 2021 a team from Diespeker enjoyed wonderfully warm weather by taking part in the Southampton Marathon to raise funds for charity stem4. Luckily the sun shone once again for the return visit in April 2022!
The course covered two laps around the city, taking in the docks, Itchen Bridge (with its challenging incline), Weston Shore and St Mary’s Stadium.
Taking part in his first half marathon run was Diespeker, foreman David Batt. David ran a very respectable time, with a time of 2:13:05.9. He was placed 1515th overall among 2335 runners.
Senior Business Development Manager, Sydney Robertson ran the half marathon in an exceptional time of 1:39:52.6 and came in at 233rd from 2335 runners.
For Diespeker’s very own marathon man, MD John Krause, Southampton was his 185th marathon run! He finished the full marathon in a creditable 3:57:56.9, placing 7th in his category and 276th of 835 runners.
There’s a postscript to the run, when, flushed with success David hotfooted it to TK Maxx where he was unable to resist buying an ornamental lion. The reason? Well David is an ardent Millwall supporter – and the club’s crest shows a leaping lion. The lion now sits in the Diespeker office, proudly sporting David’s marathon medal.
David seems to have caught the running bug and is already planning his next half-marathon. Watch this space…
