Residents of prestigious apartments in London’s Fitzrovia, Hanson Street, can now step outside their front door with pride after the replacement and refurbishment of terrazzo steps by Diespeker & Co.
In total, six steps were replaced, with one more undergoing refurbishment.
To improve safety for the residents, the new steps include grooving to prevent slipping. The grooves were cut at the Bermondsey factory using Diespeker’s Italian Terzago bridge saw. In addition, a non-slip insert was added to the nose of each step.
As the downward railings are incorporated into the main step, Diespeker had to undertake an element of precision cutting to enable the railing to enter the step seamlessly.
“The project was quite a challenge for the team, as we needed to complete the works without inconveniencing the residents, many of whom are fairly elderly,” explained Diespeker MD, John Krause.
“Fortunately the apartment blocks benefit from a variety of entrances so work could be carried out in stages to enable continuous access.”
The terrazzo used was TE001 from Diespeker’s standard range.
