The bold terrazzo design TE081 provided a real contemporary twist to a mid-century inspired kitchen designed by Woodworks Brighton.
The mid-century era , from the 1940s to the 1960s, drew on a unique blend of simplicity, functionality and style, marrying clean lines and organic forms with a suggestion of bringing the outdoors in.
For the kitchen Sapele hard wood was chosen as the feature material. Sourced from sustainable forests, this West African wood is known for its rich, reddish brown colour and is similar to oak in terms of hardness.
Working perfectly with the Sapele, resin terrazzo TE081 has a neutral base with a mixture of small white chippings and larger multi-coloured chippings and chunks of marble incorporating greens, pinks and terracotta tones. The terrazzo worktops give the kitchen a light, clean ambiance and, although it is a modern design, it has echoes of the 1950s.
The kitchen island very reminiscent of the design style of the period, set on shaped legs with fluted muted glass sliding doors for the lower shelves. The fluting was also used for the wall-mounted cabinets and reflected in the doors for the statement walk-in pantry which were painted Cooking Apple Green, a contrasting colour to the Sapele wood which also brought out the pop of green chippings in the terrazzo.
Woodworks Brighton integrated the Sapele handles seamlessly into the design adding another strong mid-century touch to the design.
The resulting space offers a warm kitchen setting that gives a real sense of an era with a contemporary twist or two!
