Cool terrazzo vibe for Cubana

It’s not just the large projects that give us the chance to show off our skills with terrazzo. Smaller projects, too, can provide the chance for creativity and flair.

Diespeker recently delivered a unique logo design that’s being set into the entrance flooring of the Cubana restaurant in Smithfield. Cubana, as the name suggests, has its roots in the Cuban culture, serving Cuban style dishes including Camarones Criollos and Bistec de palomilla con trozos de yucca (that’s sirloin steak with yucca chips to you and me). The brand also takes credit for introducing the mojito cocktail to the UK in the 1990s.

For the logo, the client wanted something eye-catching, which we created by setting black wording into bespoke coloured terrazzo. The design was agreed after a number of different samples were presented to the client and the resulting 260 x 750mm tri-coloured piece, with green and blue ‘rays’ emanating from Cubana’s traditional red star, was created in Diespeker’s workshop in Bermondsey. The logo provides a welcoming ‘statement’ for customers as they arrive.

The result, we think, captures the vibrant, hip ambience of the house of mojitos!
